A Comparison of 7 Different Hoverboards to Find Out Which is the Best One to Buy.
Here it is, the ultimate hoverboard comparison review. Many brands of hoverboard look exactly alike. Without carefully examining them how do you know which hoverboard is the best? Which hoverboard is the worst? Is there really any difference between the hoverboard brands?
What's the Best Hoverboard to Buy?
- How do you know which hoverboard you should buy?
- Which is the safest hoverboard available?
- Will the Swagway explode?
- What about a Powerboard?
- What the heck is the difference between a Swagtron and a Powerboard anyway?
- Is it like a scooter? A skateboard?
I'm sure these questions are bouncing around inside your head as you read this. It's okay, my goal here is to answer those questions for you. I used to be in the same position. I knew what I wanted, I knew how I wanted it, I knew where I wanted it from. I just didn't know WHICH I wanted.
Hoverboards are perfect for the holiday season, father day, or just a sweet ride but I'm guessing that you are in the same boat I was when I first started comparing hoverboards trying to learn which was the best one to buy. If you think this whole ordeal is extremely confusing, you're not alone.
Be the end of this article I'll show you some of the top hoverboards and show you which ones you should consider buying and why.
The world of hoverboards is confusing.
On one hand, there are the brands and styles of hoverboards. 6.5", 8", and even 10" wheels making it a smooth ride for the rider. Then there's the features: with Bluetooth, without Bluetooth, remote/no remote.
It's hard to make sense of but it's the future.
I won't even mention mini- Segway vs hoverboard vs smart balance wheel (HINT: they're the same thing, just different names but they're all real hoverboards)
Are you in a hurry and just want to jump to the conclusion of this hoverboard comparison?
t's okay if you don't want to mess with any of this. Are you looking for the quick and easy answer to Which hoverboard is the best one to buy? Click on this button and you'll be taken to the hoverboard comparison chart that I have at the end of this post.
Here's the Criteria That I use to Compare Hoverboards
1. The Hoverboard Top Speed
How fast does the hoverboard go? What's it's top speed? Is there a "learning mode?" What happens when the hoverboard reaches it's top speed.
2. The Maximum Range of the Hoverboard
How far does the manufacturer say that you can theoretically go? Is this a reasonable estimate or have they just inflated the number for marketing?
3. The Hoverboard's Battery
We have all become slaves to the all mighty battery. How long of can you use the hoverboard before you need to recharge the battery? Also, how long do you have to wait for the battery to recharge.
4. The Manufacturer's Warranty
How long is the warranty that comes with your hoverboard? What is covered by the warranty? More importantly, what isn't covered by the warranty?
5. The Price
Probably the most important thing to consider, how much will it cost to buy the hoverboard. Are there multiple places where you can buy it? Are there deals or other discounts available.
A Hoverboard Comparison of Seven Different 6.5" Hoverboards.
These are the nine brands and models that will be included in this hoverboard comparison. Included in the list are hoverboards less than $300, hoverboards with bluetooth speakers, and also some of the most popular hoverboards for 2016. If I tried to include all the different brands and models of hoverboards, this list would be way too long, so I've tried to condense it into something a little bit more manageable.
If there is a brand or model that you would like to hear my opinion on or even see added to this list, please use the Contact form on the About page and send me a message.

The Battle of the Budget Hoverboards (Under $300)
- The ZippyBoard Cruiser vs the Monorover R2
Looking for the cheapest hoverboard to buy, but you don't want to get one that's "too cheap?" While there's a few places that offer hoverboards for less than $200, you can run the risk of getting a hoverboard that's uncertified and possibly dangerous.
Getting a hoverboard for less than $300 is doable and if you want one without any of the bells and whistles than these are the budget hoverboards for you.
The Battle of the Most Popular Hoverboards (Under $400)
- The Razor Hovertrax vs the Powerboard by Hoverboard.
Two of the most popular hoverboard in 2016 were the Powerboard and the Hovertrax. Updated to be UL-2272 compliant, the new generation of Hovertrax and Powerboard are showing themselves to be just as popular.
The Battle of the Newest Hoverboards (Under $600) (Bluetooth Speakers and LED lights)
- The Streetsaw DailySaw vs the equivalent Skque self-balancing scooter
The StreetSaw and Skque brands both have several different models that are available in several different sizes and colors. They also are some of the only 6.5" hoverboards with Bluetooth speakers. But Bluetooth speakers are only one of the cool features with these. They also have LED lights that give a light show in sync to the music that they play.
And the Current Recommended Hoverboard to Buy
- SE Extreme Scooterera Hoverboard
Currently the best-selling hoverboard available; how does it compare to these other self-balancing scooters.
AN IMPORTANT TIP FOR FIRST TIME BUYERS:
If you've just started to research self balancing scooters or hoverboards you might be confused by all the different hoverboards that are available.
Beyond that, how do you know which hoverboard is safe to buy, and which ones won't catch fire or explode? Many of the hoverboards look identical, there might be slight differences in the wheels, or the name on the front. But crack the case, and that's where you will see all the differences between the hoverboard brands.
By using lower quality batteries inside the hoverboard, lower powered motors, and/or both, manufacturers were able to build a cheaper version that they could sell for the price of the more expensive scooter. Here's the tip: make sure that you read the hoverboard specs when you are shopping. That's the reason that there's such a difference in prices between hoverboards.
The Battle of the Budget: Hoverboards under $300
In the battle of the budget hoverboard there are very few differences between the different brands and hoverboards. The first step to finding which is the best hoverboard under $300 is to begin looking at the performance specs of the self-balancing scooters. Most of them will have the same rough specs:
- 8 mph top speed
- 10 mile max range
- 2-3 hr battery life
- 90-day warranty
Since the hoverboards all have the same rough performance, then next criteria to judge is what are the hidden benefits to buying from this vendor or than one?
Consider these hidden benefits:
- Extended manufacturer's warranty
- Easy warranty service
- Vendor reliability (will they be around in a year)
- Cost of shipping/sales tax
Let's check out the first budget hoverboard, the Zippyboard Cruiser
About the Zippyboard Cruiser
The Zippyboard is a brand that I recently discovered, and though they may be new i have a feeling that they might be around for a while. They offer several different hoverboards in the usual 6.5" and 10" sizes. They have several colors to choose from so if you're looking for a pink hoverboard, then Zippyboard is one of your few choices. Other choice looks are the emoji hoverboard, rainbow hoverboard,
Support remote control for more convenience
Free shipping in the US
Colors: Pink Chrome, Gold chrome, black, white, rainbow. blue, pink, and silver.
The Zippyboard Cruiser looks like a great hoverboard for cheap. They offer one of the lowest prices that I've seen, but they don't seem to be as sketchy as cheap hoverboard resellers. I definitely recommend checking them out if you're looking a hoverboard for cheap.
The Zippyboard looks pretty good, especially for a new site. How does it compare to Monorover, one of the first sites to sell hoverboards?
A Closer Look at the Monorover R2
The Monorover R2 was one of the first hoverboards to be sold in the US. It looks like it will continue to be sold for a long time. Monorover is also the only hoverboard brand that offers a discount for buying multiple hoverboards at the same time. Buying two hoverboards? You can save 7%. If you buy four hoverboards you save 34%. That's awesome savings. That discount gets the price for each hoverboard under $200.
Colors: black, red, white, blue.
Warranty: 1 yr
TIP: Keep medium speed for maximum distance; repeated stops/starts and repeated accelerations may reduce the riding distance.
The Monorover R2 is essentially the average hoverboard. You should consider the Monorover if you have buy several hoverboards (great if you need to get some for your kids), because the discount for buying several can be substantial.
Which Hoverboard Priced Under $300 Should You Buy?
Now that you've seen both the Monorover and the Zipppyboard, how do they compare?
Monorover is the basic hoverboard that you see sold everywhere. There's nothing that really makes it stand out when compared to other brands, though the bulk discount is nice if you happen to be needing to buy several hoverboards. Also if you wanted to buy a R2 hoverboard under $300 you are limited to white or black. The red and blue versions are both $100 more.
Zipppyboard on the other hand blows the Monorover away. Granted the performance specs are roughly the same for both hoverboards, but the Zippyboard also offers these:
- Cheapest hoverboard price at $260.
- Hoverboard with remote control
- Offers several unique colors and styles
I think the winner for best budget hoverboard is the Zippyboard Cruiser.
The Hovertrax 2.0 is the next generation of hoverboard
This hoverboard comparison wouldn't be complete without considering the ride-along and electric scooter behemoth that is Razor USA. Typically known for their kick scooters the Hovertrax 2.0 is showing innovations that shows Razor knows their target demographic.
They were slow to bring a product to market, but now the Razor Hovertrax is trying to become the #1 hoverboard bought in America. But how does it compare to the other hoverboards?
TIP: Do you wonder why your Hovertrax shakes sometimes while riding? You've got a low battery, and should charge soon.
A low 60 minutes is the estimated battery life. Though it may come with a fairly short battery life, Hovertrax 2.0 is designed to allow you to swap batteries out whenever you have a dead one. No other hoverboard has this feature.
There is only a 90-day manufacturer's warranty.
TIP: Charge your Hovertrax or any other hoverboard immediately after use. This will prolong the battery life.
See the full Hovertrax 2.0 review for more details.
My Rating: 84/100
The Hovertrax 2.0 has a few things going for it that allow it to barely combat the things that it has against it.
I do like that you can change the battery if need and the fact that Razor is a reliable company.
I don't like that the Hovertrax top speed is so low or that the battery doesn't last more than an hour.
More About the Powerboard by Hoverboard
The Powerboard by Hoverboard is, in my opinion, one of the better hoverboards to buy. If you'd like to see my full, in-depth review of the Powerboard , visit that link.
Speed: The Powerboard can go up to 8 MPH
Colors: red, white, black, blue
TIP: Charge your hoverboard for 2-3 hrs before using it for the first time.
TIP: The Powerboard will beep when your battery is low. Get it to a charger quick.
TIP: Buy this from Amazon and you can add a 2 year warranty for under $40. If you bought if from the official site, it would cost you $99
My Rating: 88/100
The Powerboard by Hoverboard is a great hoverboard and was previously one of the hoverboards that I usually recommended immediately to anyone that asked.
That's changed slightly since the new safety standards were released. Other brands have made it clear what improvements were done in order to become certified. The Powerboard hasn't made these changes clear, therefore I'm a bit more hesitant to recommend it. Having said that, this is still, a great hoverboard to buy.
Which is the Better Hoverboard: Hovertrax 2.0 vs Powerboard?
Comparing the Hovertrax and the Powerboard used to be easy for me to do. The Powerboard used to be the better hoverboard. Now it's beginning to be a little hard for me to universally recommend the Powerboard. While the Hovertrax is still crippled by the slower top speed and shorter battery life, the ability to quickly change batteries may tip the scales in its favor.
But not enough for me to recommend the Hovertrax over the Powerboard.
My Recommendation between the Powerboard vs the Hovertrax 2.0?
I recommend the Powerboard by Hoverboard for Best Hoverboard to Buy Under $400
The StreetSaw DailySaw 6.5" self-balancing scooter comes with Bluetooth Speakers.
All of the StreetSaw Hoverboards are Interesting, Especially the Dailysaw.
Where to start with the DailySaw?
It's currently one of the fastest hoverboards with a top speed of 10.5 mph.
The estimated range is 12 miles with an expected battery life of 5-6 hours.
Did I mention the Bluetooth speakers and RGB LED lights?
It also has an aircraft grade aluminum alloy chassis which gives it a rider maximum weight limit of 265 lbs.
Colors: Jet Black, Blue Raspberry, Candy Apple Red, Titan Gold, Verde Ithaca Green, and Tickle Me Pink.
The DailySaw is not a basic hoverboard, nor is it priced like one. However, for the features that are included, it is reasonably priced.
If you decide to get a DailySaw you're getting one of the fastest hoverboards, with excellent battery life, LED lights, and Bluetooth speakers.
Your Search for A Purple Hoverboard Ends Here
The Skque brand has several different models of hoverboards to choose from. They are a couple of variations of Bluetooth Enabled hoverboards that feature the LED lights that blink or flash in response to the music playing.
Comes with a remote control
Colors: Black and Purple
As with any purchase you make, there is a trade-off between the performance and the price. In this instance when you buy a Skque hoverboard you're getting a lower price with an equally lower performance.
Look out for the 30-day warranty!
Which is the Best Hoverboard with Bluetooth Speakers Under $600?
Looking back at the Skque vs the DailySaw from StreetSaw you can clearly see that one is better than the other. The Dailysaw is faster and goes farther for longer, while costing only a few dollars more.
Getting those few dollars extra is sometimes not possible, and if you're willing to trade-off a little bit of performance, you can get Bluetooth speakers and LED lights in your hoverboard for under $500.
What's Your Recommended Hoverboard with Speakers?
If you need a hoverboard with Bluetooth Speakers I recommend getting a DailySaw from StreetSaw.
Our hoverboards both support up to 264 lbs (though UL cert. is only for up to 220 lbs). Therefore, although they're not the greatest of the bunch, it may still be worth adding our boards into the comparison on that page. Either just a couple call-to-action blurbs or actually include our products in the comparison. We could stress that "if you weigh less than 264 lbs, these hoverboards from ScooterEra are the some of the sleekest and highest-quality on the market".
The SE Extreme has been my recommended hoverboard to buy, so how does it compare to these other brands.
My Recommended Hoverboard to Buy
Most of the time when people ask me what hoverboard to buy I usually end up recommending the SE Extreme.
It features a blend of performance, safety, and style that's available for a great price. See reviews of the SE Extreme here.
UL Certified 8.5" Rugged Hoverboard.
IP54 dust-proof / waterproof
Front and rear LED lights - provide illumination
All-terrain, shock-absorbent tires
My Rating: 93/100
The SE Extreme is a great hoverboard for those who love adventure. The powerful motors and all terrain tires make the ride speedy while looking sleek at the same time. The wider foot board and tires make it super smooth and comfortable to ride. With the weight capacity being 265 lbs, it's great for kids and parents!

What Hoverboard is the Best One?
Even after having looked at all of these hoverboards, it's difficult to choose one and saw that this is the best hoverboard. Because the self-balancing scooter that's perfect for me, might not meet the next person's needs. Here are my recommendations based on this mentality.
Are You Trying to Get the Cheapest Hoverboard?
If you're looking to buy a hoverboard for sale cheap, then you'd be crazy not to look at the Zippyboard two-wheeled hoverboard. Unlike other cheap hoverboards, the Zippyboard has decent speed and battery life. It includes a 1-year warranty and free shipping. All of this and it only costs $260! It's a great low cost hoverboard.
You Don't Want a Basic Hoverboard, But You Can't Spend Too Much.
After the low cost hoverboards the next price tier is around $400. For that price you can get a hoverboard that's got decent performance and value. Instead of the Powerboard, my recommendation is to get a Swagtron T1. It costs the same and Swagtron T1 has a few extra features that make it a safer and more reliable hoverboard.
If you decide on either a Powerboard or the T1 to buy the hoverboards on Amazon. You'll get fast shipping, and if you buy a hoverboard on Amazon, you can get a SquareTrade Extended Warranty. It will only cost about $35, but will give you an extra 2 years of warranty protection. Buying the extended warranty from the official site will cost you $99-$139 more. This is also true if you decide to buy a Hovertrax, if you get it on Amazon, you can get the extended warranty.
If you need a High-Performance Hoverboard or With Bluetooth Speakers.
The StreetSaw hoverboards are my current recommendation if you want the fastest hoverboard or speakers. If you get a DailySaw you'll get a fast hoverboard, with an extended battery life, Bluetooth speakers, and LED lights.
The world of hoverboards is not as complex as it may appear at first, once you get used to the need to look carefully at the details. Two hoverboards may have the same appearance, but on the inside they can be very different.
I hope this comparison has been helpful to you. If you have any additional questions, comments, thoughts, please use the contact form on the About page (the link is at the bottom in the footer) and message me. I love to answer questions and will help you in any way that I can.
